Ways to Use Testing
A number of HR professionals begin their staffing role believing that a
paper-and-pencil test can be a cure-all for almost all staffing situations.
Companies as diverse as Ameritas Life Insurance and the National Football
League use the Wonderlic personality test as a means of assessing employees and
potential hires. Many universities use the SAT, ACT, GMAT, or GRE exams to
screen potential students. It is tempting to look at these numbers and use them
as a key step in the selection process. For this discussion, describe
how you would use a test of your choice to screen for a position you are
familiar with. You could focus only on the extremes, focus on the mid-points
(for example, 22 is mean for a job, so you screen only for people near
22), or you could use some other method.
Use at least two sources from the course, your own findings, or
workplace examples to justify your rationale for using the selected screening
test.
