Discuss how the theory presented by your peer aligns with your beliefs about play. Additionally, suggest at least one additional theory that could be associated with the beliefs and values they presented in their initial posts. Provide constructive feedback to your peers. Challenge them by asking a question that may cause them to re-evaluate, or add components to the theories they chose in terms of play. 5 sentences or more.

The two theories of play that I have selected that align with my beliefs are Freud and Piaget theories.

Sigmund Freud’s theory has to do with “nature and nurture contribute to the structure of personality, including ego, id, and superego” (Frost, Wortham, Reifel 2011). This theory aligns with my beliefs because I believe children are born with genes just as he does. Children are able to grown and adapt into the atmosphere provided. “Play, in the form of fantasy or pretense, is a reflection of children’s efforts to deal with those things that are out of their control” (Frost, Wortham, Reifel 2011). Jean Piaget’s theory has to do with assimilation and accommodation as well as the four stages of development. “Assimilation is the action of the child on surrounding objects, whereas the converse action, accommodation, is the action of the environment (objects) on the child” (Frost, Wortham, Reifel 2011). Piaget’s theory aligns with my beliefs because I also believe children learn the imitation of play. Dramatic play for example lets children express what they have learned from imitation of adults and the adult world.

I plan on using these theories as a teacher to better help me provided what type of growth and development level student should be able to show. What type of environmental views they show as children and what they have adapted to. As well what types of play they are able to lean and gain knowledge from.
