-Please read the Moriarty article “Do CEOs get paid too much?”.

-Please watch the following video:

-Please make (at least one) post that answers one of the following questions. By standard form, I mean as follows:

1) Premise

2) Premise

3) Premise

4) Premise

… etc. However, many premises are required

Therefore, (give the conclusion of the argument)

Here is an example of an argument arranged in this way:

1) A method of public transportation is good only if it is faster than Usain Bolt and does not impede traffic.

2) The New Orleans Streetcar is slower than Usain Bolt and gets in the way of cars and pedestrians.

Therefore, the New Orleans Streetcar is not a good method of public transportation.

1) Suppose you are an agreement theorist regarding just wages. Moriarty holds that if the agreement view is correct, then average CEO pay ought to be less than $8 million per year (262). Recapitulate, in standard form, Moriarty’s argument for this claim.

2) Suppose you are a desert theorist regarding just wages.  Moriarty claims that “there is no standard of deservingness according to which CEOs deserve to make 301 times as much as their employees” (267). As such, it is likely that CEO pay ought to be drastically reduced. Recapitulate, in standard form, Moriarty’s argument for this claim.

3) Suppose you believe that “a just wage is one that maximizes firm wealth”, that is, you are a utility theorist (267). Moriarty holds that “there are no good utility-based arguments in favor of the current level of CEO pay” (273). List the different utility-based reasons a CEO might give in defense of his or her salary and why Moriarty claims that CEOs on average are not worth $8 million a year for their firms.
