Millions of tourists visit Pompeii annually, many of them bring strollers and leave behind trash. Additionally, the footsteps and handprints of visitors interacting with the city are gradually wearing away what remains.

Today, Pompeii is protected by Italy’s Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism. Within the ministry, a special group known as the Archaeological Park of Pompeii (n.d.) was formed with the goal of preservation, conservation, and public use.

Reflect on what you think the organization can or should do to preserve the unique treasure that is Pompeii, while at the same time ensuring that the public can have access to it.
