Week 6 Study: Sabbath Rest

Attached Files:

We know from the Creation narrative that human beings were not only created to work for God's glory but that God modeled rest for humans by resting on the seventh day from His work. We also saw in our examination of the Ten Commandments that God commanded the Israelites to honor the Sabbath. Jesus is Lord of the Sabbath, claiming:

“The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. So the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath" (Mark 2:27-28)

There are a wide range of views on the Sabbath among Christians. Is the Sabbath a literal twenty-four day? Is it Sunday or Saturday? Is it a literal rest from work or a shift from ordinary work? Does it have more to do with literal rest or spiritual rest?

There are a lot of questions about Sabbath; however, we know from the Creation narrative and the Ten Commandments that Sabbath is worth thinking about.

Peter Scazzero has written extensively on leadership and discipleship. One of the topics Scazzero discusses frequently is Sabbath. Click on the link above to read some short excerpts of Scazzero discussing Sabbath.
