As a result of social distancing
approaches to control building occupancy in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic,
some occupancies have limited or modified ingress and egress options. However,
fire and life safety mandates, such as those requiring a minimum number of
emergency exits or egress drills, have not changed as a result of COVID-19 or
social distancing. The potential or risk of a fire or emergency and the need
for accessible exits remains the same, regardless of the number of people in a
building.
Discuss how you have seen social
distancing approaches or the reopening of businesses and schools during the
COVID-19 pandemic potentially affecting building and life safety. Do you think
the approaches could impact occupant or firefighter safety in the event of a
fire? Do you think meeting social distancing standards as well as life safety
requirements are equally achievable? Why, or why not?
Your journal entry must be at
least 200 words in length. No references or citations are necessary.
