For
this assignment, you will choose a commercial building in your local area. You
may not use a fire department building for this assignment. It may be a
completed building or one under construction, as long as you are able to
accomplish all requirements below.
§ Identify
the building you have chosen for this project. Give a brief description of its
location, type, use, and general size or layout.
§ Detail
any Geographic Information System (GIS) data that may exist for this building.
If you cannot access GIS information or maps for this building, discuss any
information that would likely be documented in GIS that can aid fire crews in a
response.
§ Identify
any significant features that should be documented in a prefire plan.
§ Discuss
at least three specific features of this building that would be subject to fire
resistance testing.
§ Analyze
firefighter safety concerns that are specific to this building. Include
possible strategies and tactics to address these concerns.
Your
project must include (at a minimum):
§ four
pictures of the building exterior (A–D sides),
§ three
pictures of the specific building features you identified that are subject to
fire resistance testing, and
§ two
pictures of different fire protection systems in the building.
The
written portion of your project must be a minimum of two pages in length.
Photographs, GIS mapping, and the title and reference pages do not count toward
meeting the written two-page requirement.
You
must use at least two sources to support your written analysis, one of which
may be your eTextbook. All sources used must have proper APA-formatted
citations and references.
