Scenario
You are a Communications Analyst
at Unified Airways, one of only few a transnational airlines. Recently, your
company became the target of an intensive federal investigation involving the
gross mismanagement of government subsidies intended for increasing the
airline’s safety standards for Homeland Security. Many of the company’s former
executives have left the company in disgrace or have forcibly resigned as a
result of this investigation.
Additionally, Unified Airways has
suffered from several public relations catastrophes, which have added to the
company’s already negative public image. Last month, a Houston Flight Crew made
national headlines for forcing a single mother of five to pay for an additional
seat, citing her “general lack of hygiene” as requirement for all domestic
flights.
UA’s CEO attempted to address the
controversial issue immediately with the following Twitter statement: “Unified
Airways is committed to providing the best experience for all of our customers.
We cannot allow dirty, overweight passengers to affect the experience of the
entire plane.” Needless to say, several groups have accused the CEO of a lack
of sensitivity to the mother. His lack of empathy and understanding ledseveral
Board member to question his competence. He will need to respond quickly and
effectively to save his job.
Brief
You are a Communication
Director for Unified Airlines. In a brief memo to your CEO, explain the problem
with his recent, controversial Tweet and provide him with a public statement
for Twitter. Remember, you must successfully placate an angry audience in 140
characters or less.
Deliverables
You must submit a double-spaced copy of the memo. Use Times New
Roman, 12-point font, and one-inch margins. Print single-sided pages.
