Factual Background Section
This section will be a three-page explanation of the important basic information
and facts related to your topic.
It is important to note that this section is not the place to
discuss your opinion or analysis of your topic or the opinion or analysis of
experts. Those things will be discussed in later sections. This section should be given over
to discussing facts only. In this section avoid opinion or analysis.
This section should address/do things like:
-Introduce the section
-What is your topic?
-Why is your topic important?
-Who is affected by your topic? How are they affected?
-What are some basic terms a person needs to understand in order to understand
your topic?
-What are some basic concepts a person needs to understand in order to
understand your topic?
-Explain the history of your topic.
-Conclude your section
Note that everyone's Factual Background Section should address all of these
points, but you may address other points in addition to these points.
This section should be at least three pages long.
You must include and properly cite at least three unique sources
in this section. You should have about two to three citations per page.
