Respond to the following in a minimum of 175 words:
While there are multiple discussion topics the participation
rules remain the same. Your response post can be on any one of them and your
reply posts can be in response to classmate’s discussions of any of them.
Discussion Topic #1 - Where do you think that
lean-Six Sigma can be used effectively? How will risk assessments vary
from industry to industry? What industries do you think would be
the best candidates for the lean-Six Sigma approach? Why?
Discussion Topic #2 - This week Chapter 13
provides an introduction to Six Sigma and to LEAN/Six Sigma and as usual is a
fairly long and somewhat statistical look at the concept.
However, as I like to simplify these ideas for class
discussions: -
I see LEAN/Six Sigma as a three-legged stool:
Leg 1 - the elimination of waste wherever and whenever it
occurs. There are no limitations on where waste could be found not even on
the amount of waste. Waste is waste and it must be rooted out wherever it
is found. There is an interest corollary here to Inventory Management that
is a part of the ‘Make’ component of our supply chain. It says that any
inventory not immediately needed is wasteful, and that is the basis for what we
now know as JIT [Just In Time].
Leg 2 – the elimination of all paperwork. Why do you think that
is so important?
Leg 3 – [the most important one of all in my opinion] - The
optimization of employee empowerment or, as I often like to say, the
elimination of management interference in day-to-day operations.
The analogy to a three-legged stool is interesting in that
unless all three legs are present the stool is a failed process and cannot
perform its function. I would like us to discuss the importance of each of
the legs separately, and the necessity of having all three.
