Project (29 Points)
The final project will consist of a research project. This
is an individual project. The project will be to first identify a problem in
your organization specific to Human Resource Management. If you are unemployed,
you will choose an organization in existence that you can easily acquire
information. This is also an opportunity to provide “free consulting” to that
organization.
Once the HR related problem is identified you will then be
asked to analyze and research the problem. The final project will consist of a
professional proposed solution to the problem, including the benefit of solving
the problem, and a detailed analysis of the problem.
Human Resource Management Final
Project Specifications:
This project is somewhat flexible with regard to format,
especially given the vast array of HR needs. However, everyone is to use APA
formatting and include the following 11 sections:
1. Title Page – [.5 points]
2. Background Information of the
Organization (How
many employees? Sales? Location? Products/Services? Etc.) No more than 1 page.

3. Nature of the Problem (How did the problem arise?
Who identified the problem?) 1/2 page [3 points]
4. Problem Statement (one sentence, begin with “The
problem is…” include organization’s name in this statement and use words like
establish, develop, identify, evaluate, analyze, or assess. Example: The problem is the
Boston YMCA needs to develop an appropriate performance appraisal method for
staff employees.) [1 point]
5. Benefit to the Organization if the
Problem is Resolved (What
will be gained by completing this project?) 1/2 page [3 point]
6. Literature Review. Research current practices,
standards, etc. recommended by experts and professional organizations. Include
at least five sources. (A literature review is a synthesis of what is known
about a subject, based primarily on research studies. The review compares and contrasts the
results of various studies, expert knowledge, standards, and practices of
organizations. Summary statements expressed by the author (student) -
should be supported by the literature and referenced using APA standards). At
least 3 pages. [5 points]
7. Your Recommendation (HR solution that you intend
to contribute to the organization. Example: Appropriate
performance appraisal method, complete with instrument with ranking and rating
scales for the Boston YMCA.) Number of pages will vary depending on project.[6
points]
8. Justification (Why did you choose your
method, tool, process, etc? Part of your response should be based on Literature
Review findings). 1/2 page. [2 point]
9. Implementation Plan (When do you hope to implement
your plan? Who must be involved in implementing this? Estimated cost to
implement? Potential barriers that might impede implementation?). 1 page
[5 points]
10. Conclusion [1 point]
11. References [2 points]
