Week 1 Discussion 2
1.2 Discussion
This discussion
closes at midnight on Sunday evening. Initial post is due.
Welcome to the Franklin Pierce Investment Club
As a class, we are going to follow a portfolio of stocks of US
publically traded companies. I would like everyone to choose two companies that
they will become the class experts for. You will need to follow these stocks
and the stock market over the next 12 weeks and give updates on their
performance through the weekly threaded discussion that will devoted to this
topic. Please be sure to pick stocks from two different industries and
companies that you are somewhat familiar with, or have an interest in. Make
sure that one of your choices is company that is not performing well or is
having serious problems. Be sure you can justify why your company
is not doing well. This justification will have to have a quantitative
basis, such as falling revenue, lack of profits, etc. Use financial data
to back up your choice. Choosing a company like Apple or Google does not
qualify and do not choose a company that is already in bankruptcy. Over the
coming weeks you will be expected to present financial information from these
companies and you will need to obtain and become familiar with their annual
reports and financial statements.
For this week's discussion, I would like everyone to present the two
companies they are going to follow along with the reasons for their choice. No
duplicates please so it will be "first come first served.” If you respond
late, read the threads and make sure you do not choose a company that has
already been selected. Feel free to comment on each other’s choices - perhaps
you know something about someone else's choice and you might want to persuade
them to change their selection.
