Your initial discussion thread is due on Day 3 (Thursday) and you have until Day 7 (Monday) to respond to your classmates. Your grade will reflect both the quality of your initial post and the depth of your responses. 




Reading Fluency

Chapter 9 of our text goes into depth about the importance of fluency instruction.  In Section 9.2, the author lists five different methods for helping children to become more fluent readers (Coats, 2013).  For this discussion, find your assigned method for improving fluency instruction below, according to the first letter of your last name:

a.	A - G: Modeling fluent reading
b.	H - L: Read, Re-read, Repeat
c.	M - Q: Echo/Choral Reading
d.	R - V: Phrased Reading
e.	W - Z: Reader- Theater
For the method you are assigned, discuss the following three questions:

a.	How can you incorporate this idea into your classroom?
b.	What signs will you look for to indicate that this approach is improving fluency?
c.	How can you encourage and support parents to use these fluency strategies at home?
Guided Response: Review several of your classmates’ posts.  Respond to at least two classmates who discussed a different approach from your own.  Now, assume that you just finished teaching your students using the approach mentioned in your classmates’ responses for fluency instruction.  As you were assessing your students’ fluency progress, you discovered that some of your students had not made any growth.  Reflect on at least two aspects of the approaches you think may have been difficult for your students.  In addition, discuss which approach you would try next, and why you believe that method would have a greater impact on student achievement.
