Criminal profilers
 
Week 2 Learning Activity

The main topic of discussion this week is of the various theories of why one becomes a criminal in the first place.  Closely associated with that is the role of "profilers".  TV shows like "Criminal Minds" have popularized the idea of criminal profiling in order to ascertain the identity of the bad guy.

Criminal profiling is the investigation of a crime with the hope of identifying the responsible party, based on crime scene analysis, investigative psychology, and behavorial evidence analysis.
 
What is depicted in TV shows is not always spot on.  The FBI doesn not actually have a position entitled "profiler". The types of jobs associated with profiling at the FBI are performed at Quantico, Virginia by a group of agents assigned to the National Center for the Analysis of Violent Crime, (NCAVC) .
