Describe a problem to be solved and determine the characteristics of the perfect team to address the problem.
The problem to be solved is building morale for employees in a manufacturing plant. The morale is down because; the employees are working long hours due to staffing needs and attendance issues.
This problem can be solved by the management team getting together to find ways of boosting morale for the employees. The team can come up with incentives for employees to be present at work and partner with the HR department and find efficient ways on hiring more employees.
Analyze the overall effectiveness of communication in your current workplace (or classroom). Make recommendations for improving the overall quality of communication).
In my current position, I am an Outbound Manager at Dollar General Distribution Center. I have been in this position for 4 years. The biggest opportunity in the building is inconsistent communication from shift to shift. Both shifts are not practicing the same work behaviors. This problem is causing poor building performance as well as poor employee morale.
The way to solve this problem would be to set up a meeting with my counterpart to ensure the communication is be relayed consistently on both shifts. This can also be corrected by both shifts leaving a consistent pass-along to communicate the opportunities that occurred during their shift.
o Describe a problem to be solved and determine the characteristics of the perfect team to address the problem.
Currently I work as a Data Integrity Specialist for an online advertising company. The purpose of the company is to bring buyers of large machinery (tractors, cranes, excavators etc) together with dealerships who sell heavy equipment. The company provides an online presence to facilitate as an advertising space & market for communication to occur between these parties. My division serves as online & database support.
A typical issue that can occur is the site management tool (used by Dealers to advertise their inventory) might malfunction and not allow Dealers to add new pieces to their online listings.
It is first determined whether the issue affects individual Dealers (Dealers whose name begins with the letter ‘A’), Dealers in a certain geographic area (MI, IN, IL, WI) or a general site wide problem. After that is determined, the size of the team can be constructed. If the issue is site wide then a smaller number of workers can be assigned as team members; we know that we will be looking at global values/code as opposed to fine tooth combing to see why only certain areas are affected and others are not. This team would need approximately 3 team members; a project manager & 2 source code analysts. The diversity of the team would not need to be too varied. Code Analysts would need to be on the same page & speak the same general language (jargon). The Project Manager would likely instruct 1 person to fix the code error while assigning the other to find out what caused the hiccup in the first place. Due to the small size of the group, cohesiveness & direct communication are critically important. The Project Manager has to lay out what he/she needs & the Analysts need to express what is feasible. Conflicts need to be handled immediately in order to avoid any prolonging of solving the issue. The customer is suffering and the company- reputation & money are at stake, the team needs to keep this in mind.

Communication amongst my immediate depart is great. The improvement needs to come with better, more efficient communication with the sales & service teams who are likely to first encounter the problem as they are the first contact the Dealers will make when there is a site issue. They need to provide as much detailed information as possible by asking probing questions while they have the Dealer on the phone. We need to educate them better on the type of questions to ask so the issue can be resolved faster. Currently we have improved communication by creating a small checklist of questions to ensure the most pertinent information is obtained from the Dealer by other departments.

Describe a problem to be solved and determine the characteristics of the perfect team to address the problem.
I work for the Defense Commissary Agency where I am an Inventory Management Specialist. Where our duties consist of a team of three monitoring and managing all inventory on hand in our facility. One of the biggest problems is lack of communication from employees on night shift and certain duties don’t get performed at night therefore making our work challenging when returning to work the next business day. For example, if certain products aren’t checked in properly or if the paper work isn’t processed or handled properly you can’t begin your work until your invoices and proper documents are completed. The best team for handling scenarios such as this would be problem-solving teams, by gathering individuals together who are knowledgeable of the profession and know how to complete all procedures on the job may bring new ideas and solutions to this problem.

It is a common problem in the workplace of many organizations, but one way of improving on it is to have meetings with department Supervisors and management from all departments in your organization as well as the supervisor dispatching the information to its employees on any changes or decisions on specific tasks and projects. That way everyone is on the same page and working to complete the same goal.
o Evaluate the technological components of the production process and determine which provides the greatest overall benefit. Explain your rationale.
Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM) provides the best overall benefit because it allows for a better set of checks & balances that will help to catch & correct errors before they become too costly. This system strikes the most even balance between human capital & automation and does so at a high level of productivity. Effectively integrating CIM will cut costs and improve productivity for the company.

o Analyze the role of the production manager and recommend at least one (1) additional responsibility you believe a production manager should have. Please be as creative as you like.
The text identifies 4 main tasks of the Production Manager: Plan the process, Select the most appropriate layout, Implement the production plan, & Control the process. An additional measure that should be added to the steps in the Control phase (Planning-Routing-Scheduling-Dispatching-Follow Up) is an Adjustment step. The Adjustment measure needs to be included because it is highly unlikely that the original plans will come out to be the final solution. A production manager has to keep adjustment concerns and contingency plans in mind throughout the process.

•	Evaluate the technological components of the production process and determine which provides the greatest overall benefit. Explain your rationale.
The technological components of the production process that determines the greatest overall benefit would be the CIM, Computer Integrated Manufacturing. All of the technological components play important roles in reducing costs, improved productivity and less risks of injury to name only a few of the benefits. CIM combines all components but includes one that is most important to human life, the robot. The robot, a programmable machine, can perform many tasks many of those which are repetitive which causes injury, and/or work with hazardous material. Keeping employees away from unsafe/unhealthy working conditions creates great morale because employee feel that they are valued, reduces health and accident costs to the company and keeps them in good standing with OSHEA.
•	Analyze the role of the production manager and recommend at least one (1) additional responsibility you believe a production manager should have. Please be as creative as you like.
The role of the production manager maintains all of the processes for planning, routing, scheduling, dispatching and follow-up. As a part of the follow up process, the production manager must detect and report delays or potential delays. Part of that process is reviewing employee absenteeism, which can become a huge part problem in the production process; however, the phase that is missing is employee engagement. When employees’ are engaged, there is a definite increase in attendance, improved productivity, improved quality and overall employee morale. The employee- that spend hours every single day are closer to the process than the production manager. They can provide valuable information as to the problems, bottle necks, plant layout efficiency, and quality of materials, as well as suggestions to eliminate or significantly reduce these problem areas. Creating a core team to support the production manager would not only allow employees to become part of the solutions but to be a part of the team which would create a sense of value and worth for all of the plant employees.

Evaluate the technological components of the production process and determine which provides the greatest overall benefit. Explain your rationale.
My experience is 11 years in a production environment. The technological component that provides the greatest overall benefit is Flexible Manufacturing System (FMS). This system is similar to the system used in my current job. This system allows you to monitor productivity standards as well as track the efficiency rate of the merchandise being shipped out. Most importantly, this system enables you to monitor what merchandise is in the process of being shipped to the stores. This is the most important tool in the production process.

Analyze the role of the production manager and recommend at least one (1) additional responsibility you believe a production manager should have. Please be as creative as you like.
A production manager has many roles, such as planning, controlling, selecting, and implementing. The (1) additional responsibility that a product manager should have is the Time Management step. Time management should be added because every phase of a production manager- job is on a time schedule. There are specific times that every work assignment should be completed. If the work assignments are not completed in the time allotted, the will be additional late carrier fees.
