H1N1 Influenza The H1N1 virus is an influenza-A virus with a capacity to infect humans. The first known outbreak of H1N1 influenza occurred in 1918. This pandemic flu was referred to as the Spanish flu and killed an estimated 50-100 million people worldwide. In 2009, a new outbreak of H1N1 appeared. Primary Task Response: Within the Discussion Board area, write 400-500 words that respond to the following questions with your thoughts, ideas, and comments. This will be the foundation for future discussions by your classmates. Be substantive and clear, and use examples to reinforce your ideas: •How is the influenza vaccine produced, and why are new vaccines produced every year? •What role do you think vaccines play in preventing the spread of disease? •What are the possible effects to individuals and the community of not vaccinating for influenza and other diseases?
