MAT 540 WEEK 8 MAT540 Week 8 Discussion • Chapter 4, Linear Programming: Modeling Examples Practice setting up linear programming models for business applications Select an even-numbered LP problem from the text, excluding 14, 20, 22, 36 (which are part of your homework assignment). Formulate a linear programming model for the problem you select. Problem 21 The Midland Tool Shop has four heavy presses it uses to stamp out prefabricated metal cover and housings for electronic consumer products. All four presses operate differently are of different sizes. Currently the firm has a contract to produce three products. The contract calls for 400 units of 1; 570 units of product 2; 320 unit of product 3. The time (in minutes) required for each product to be produced on each machine is as follows: Machines Product 1 2 3 4 1 35 41 34 39 2 40 36 32 43 3 38 37 33 40 Machine 1 = 150 hours Machine 2 = 240 hours Machine 3 = 200 hours Machine 4 = 250 hours Note: the products also result in different profits, according to the machine they are produced on, because of time, waste, and operating cost. The profit per unit per machine for each product is summarized as follows: Machine In $ Product 1 2 3 4 1 7.8 7.8 8.2 7.9 2 6.7 8.9 9.2 6.3 3 8.4 8.1 9.0 5.8  Formulate this problem as a linear programming model  Solve the model by using the computer
