Module 4 - Discussion: Mathematician

Research

For this discussion activity, choose a mathematician, then research his/her life and accomplishments. The Hunt Library Research Librarians have prepared a Subject Guide ( to help you get started.

Share

Choose one of the following ways to share your information with the class:

·         Select one thing he/she is famous for and write a newspaper article using the “who, what, where, why, and how” method describing the discovery he/she made.

·         Prepare a want ad for a job he or she might be able to apply for in today’s world and a short resume for that job including background information, education, and published works.

Relate your mathematician to at least one of the Learning Outcomes for this course (see the syllabus) through a connection between accomplishment/publication and the necessary use of real numbers and arithmetic; polynomials and equations; or ratios, proportions, and percentages.

List the resources used at the end of your post using APA style. See the Hunt Library’s Research Guide on APA Style  for some help (and a link to EAGLET if you need some support).

Your initial post should be at least 200 words and submitted before the end of the first week of this module.  In the second week, read your classmates’ posts and reply to at least two with observations that add to a conversation about the integral nature of this course’s topics and the work of mathematicians in many fields. You must make your initial post before you can see the posts of your classmates.
