Module 2 - Discussion: Learning Math

To reach the electronic version of the textbook, first select MyLab and Mastering link in Canvas and use the MyMathLab Course Home link to enter MML. Select the Multimedia Library from the course navigation menu in the MML landing page.

Select Multimedia Textbook as the Media Type in the blue box (the Chapter and Section selections do not matter). Use the Find Now button, then select any of the section titles that appear below the blue box. A new window will open with the Table of Contents on the left side of the page. With this window, you can navigate anywhere in the textbook.

For this activity, you will read the sections from “To the Student” through “The Math Study System” [pages xii through xxi – that’s ten (short) pages in case you have forgotten your Roman numerals].

All of us learn in different ways. If we can effectively determine our unique learning style, chances are we will learn the material better and retain more of what we learn. Keeping that in mind, take the Learning Styles Inventory after you have completed the reading.

Use the Learning Styles Inventory to record your responses and calculate your score. Attach the document to your initial post.

Post

Choose a topic in this module and explain how you would study the problems of this type using your Learning Style. Feel free to use the Equation Editor to share an example. You can search on the Internet for examples of Learning Styles; just be sure to give credit where it is due.

Your initial post should be at least 200 words and submitted by the end of the first week of this module. In the second week, read your classmates’ posts and reply to at least two with observations that add to a conversation about the course topics and previous exposure to them. You must make your initial post before you can see the posts of your classmates.
