Assignment Instructions

This week you will perform another"wet" lab and test known and unknown samples for the presence of proteins, reducing sugars, and starches. The first three parts introduce you to the test methods using known samples as positive and negative controls. In part four, you will select an unknown sample and test it for the presence of proteins, reducing sugars, and starches using the methods you learned in parts 1 through 3. Make sure you download the lab worksheet provided below under "Supporting Materials" so that you know what is expected of you. This week requires multiple photographs and creation of data tables. Remember  to resize your images so they are no more than 100 KB/image when you insert them into the lab worksheet. Otherwise, your lab worksheet file size may be too large to upload in the classroom.

Instructions: 

1. Download and read the lab worksheet provided below under “Supporting Materials.”

2. Complete the following activities from the online lab manual (Biology Lab button in the left menu):

·         Lab 5 – The Chemistry of Life

o    Introduction (all sections under the “The Chemistry of Life” heading)

o    Assignments, Procedures, and Lab Drills

§  Complete and pass the Lab Drill

§  Perform Experiment 1

3. Fill out the lab worksheet. Save your work as a Microsoft Word document and name your file Lastname_Firstname_BIOL133_LabAssg3


Submission Instructions:  Attach your Microsoft Word file for the experiment to this assignment. NOTE: you must submit this assignment as a Microsoft Word document rather than a Word Pad, Works, PDF, etc. type of document. Otherwise, you will not receive credit for your work.
