ENG 101 Week 2 Discussion 2 | Assignment Help | Carrington College (US)
Module 2:
Comparison/Contrast Organization
Chapter 10 of your
eBook explains that there are two ways to organize a comparison/contrast paper:
point-by-point and subject-by-subject.
Your eBook Paragraph
Activity: Selecting Supporting Details provides a comparison/contrast graphic
organizer. This is an effective tool to use when setting up your paper
organization.
Before creating the
graphic organizers, you need to determine your thesis.
Sample thesis: Even
though my daughter and son have many differences, their similarities help them
get along.
Points to Compare and
Contrast |
Subject A: daughter |
Subject B: son |
*organized |
Detail-oriented; good
memory; makes lists; marks calendar |
Relies on his memory |
*sense of humor |
Appreciates a good
joke; isn’t offended by much |
Very quick on clever
comebacks |
*relationships |
Builds them fast, but
they don’t always last |
Builds them slowly;
does not choose to repair those that go awry |
Choose one of the
options from Activity 10.3 or from Paragraph Activity: Prewriting. Create a
chart similar to the one above. Try to avoid the obvious or general comparisons
or contrasts that readers already know. Make sure your comparison/contrast is
an analysis.
*Avoid the five star
restaurant compared to the fast food one. It isn't a "fair"
comparison and, therefore, too difficult
Remember that the
discussions in this module will be graded together. For more information,
