4-1 Discussion: Reactions to Air Quality Issues

Societal and political reactions to environmental issues are important in order to make the changes necessary to address the issues. In regard to air quality issues, global programs have been developed to address these issues. For your initial discussion, explore the Factors that Affect Air Quality model and adjust the sliders to create different conditions to explore how each variable changes the air quality index over time. Next, answer the following question: Do you believe societal or political reactions have made a bigger difference in reducing air pollution in the United States? Consider the following questions in your response:

How is the Clean Air Act regulating human activity in relation to air pollution? Are there any additional programs in your city or state that are regulating air quality that have been implemented by the government?

Use examples from your text or other peer-reviewed resources to support your decision.

In your first response post, explain how your community or state has reacted to the issue of air quality, and discuss the outcome of this reaction.

Then, in your second response post, identify at least one global initiative or program that works to regulate air quality. Compare the impact of the global reaction to air pollution to that of the reaction your peers discussed.
