Instructions

1.   Review the rubric to make sure you understand the criteria for earning your grade.

2.   Read and review section 1.1, “Defining Marketing,” section 1.4, “Themes and Organization of This Book,” and all of Chapter 16, “The Marketing Plan,” including section 16.1, “Marketing Planning Roles,” section 16.2, “Functions of the Marketing Plan,” section 16.3, “Forecasting,” and section 16.4, “Ongoing Marketing Planning and Evaluation,” from the textbook Principles of Marketing.

3.   Read and review the following resources:

b.    Ethics in Marketing

c.    Market Definition

d.   How Marketing Influences Our Daily Life

e.    Marketing: Exchanges and Relationships

f.     Interview with a marketing icon

g.   Four Ps of Marketing

h.   Sources of Value to the Buyer

i.     The Marketing Process

j.     6 Steps to a Marketing Plan

k.    Ethical Marketing

l.     Ethics in Marketing

4.   Select five individuals, who may include friends, relatives, and classmates, and ask them to define marketing in their own words.

a.    Selected interviewees should represent various demographic backgrounds and professions.

5.   Navigate to the threaded discussion and respond to the following discussion prompts:

a.    Summarize the responses from the individuals whom you interviewed.

b.    Write your own definition of marketing.

c.    Consider the areas of your life that are affected by marketing. Do marketers develop needs or wants? Provide at least one example to support your response.

6.   Your initial post is due by the end of the fourth day of the workshop.

7.   Read and respond to at least two of your classmates’ postings, as well as instructor follow-up questions directed to you, by the end of the workshop.

8.   Your postings should also:

a.    Be well developed by providing clear answers with evidence of critical thinking.

b.    Add greater depth to the discussion by introducing new ideas.

c.    Provide clarification to classmates’ questions and insight into the discussion.
