4.3 Discussion: WWII, Cold War, Turbulent 60s

 

Before posting, please make sure you have reviewed the Workshop 4.3 Discussion: WWII, Cold War, Turbulent 60s page.

Instructions

1.   Review the rubric to make sure you understand the criteria for earning your grade.

2.   Read Chapters 26–28 in your textbook. 

3.   Navigate to the Discussion page and respond to the following (type the questions [a,b, c] and answer each in a separate paragraph):

a.    What were three of the most significant events of World War II and how did the Allies achieve victory over the Axis powers?

b.    Give at least three reasons for the Cold War between the United States and the Soviet Union. How did this conflict impact American culture (politically, socially, economically, technologically, spiritually etc)? Also, how did Americans react to McCarthyism during the Cold War?

c.    What was the goal of President Johnson’s “Great Society”?  What were some of the events that led to the attempt to create this perfect order – think Civil Rights movement, the struggle against communism, Kennedy’s assassination and any other events that moved the nation in this new ideological direction – a new era of social engineering. 

4.   Your response should be a minimum of 300 words and you should write a paragraph for each question.

a.    Each paragraph, or the answer to each question, should be at least 100 words.

b.    Do not quote from the text and you may only use the text as a source in answering the discussion questions.  

5.   Your initial post is due by the end of the fourth day of the workshop.

6.   Read and respond to at least two of your classmates’ postings, as well as all follow-up instructor questions directed to you, by the end of the workshop.

7.   Your postings should also:

a.    Be well developed by providing clear answers with evidence of critical thinking.

b.    Add greater depth to the discussion by introducing new ideas.

c.    Provide clarification to classmates’ questions and provide insight into the discussion.

d.   Be posted on two different days during the workshop.
