3.3 Discussion: World War I and the Great Depression

 

Before posting, please make sure you have reviewed the Workshop 3.3 Discussion: World War I and the Great Depression page.

Instructions

1.   Review the rubric to make sure you understand the criteria for earning your grade.

2.   Read Chapters 23–25 in your textbook. 

3.   Navigate to the Discussion page and respond to the following (type the questions [a,b, c] and answer each in a separate paragraph):

a.    How did the United States contribute to the Allies’ victory in World War I?  What was the most significant of President Wilson’s Fourteen Points at the Versailles Peace Conference?  Why did the United States Senate reject the Versailles treaty and the idea of a League of Nations? 

b.    Explain the meaning of the phrase “Return to Normalcy.”  After the war, was it possible for the nation to turn back the clock or had World War I permanently changed American culture? 

c.    What were the causes of the Great Depression?  Identify the similarities and the differences between the responses of the Hoover and Roosevelt administrations.   

4.   Your response should be a minimum of 300 words and you should write a paragraph for each question.

a.    Each paragraph, or the answer to each question, should be at least 100 words.

b.    Do not quote from the text and you may only use the text as a source in answering the discussion questions.  

5.   Your initial post is due by the end of the fourth day of the workshop.

6.   Read and respond to at least two of your classmates’ postings, as well as all follow-up instructor questions directed to you, by the end of the workshop.

7.   Your postings should also:

a.    Be well developed by providing clear answers with evidence of critical thinking.

b.    Add greater depth to the discussion by introducing new ideas.

c.    Provide clarification to classmates’ questions and provide insight into the discussion.

d.   Be posted on two different days during the workshop.
