Module 1: Skill Builder - Installing and Using Photoshop

In this Skill Builder exercise, you will download, install, and create your first Photoshop document. View the video in Lesson 3 to help guide you through using Photoshop. Links to other files you need are listed below.

Objectives

The very first thing you should do this week is download and install Adobe Photoshop CC.

Accessing Adobe Creative Cloud and Photoshop CC

Adobe Creative Cloud is a subscription based service that provides access to a collection of creative design applications and services for graphic design, video editing, web development, and photography.

If you do not have an Adobe Creative Cloud account, you will need to activate the account provided to you for this course. Follow the instructions in the lab section of the Course Resources page (located under the Introduction and Resources module) to activate your Adobe Creative Cloud. Please use your DeVry e-mail, not your personal one.

Adobe Photoshop CC is one of the programs available for you to install after you have first installed the Adobe Creative Cloud desktop manager and activated your account.

Once you have activated your account, open Adobe Creative Cloud on your computer and log in. Click on Apps and select Photoshop CC to begin the download. Please note, this process of downloading and installing may take up to an hour, so do this as soon as possible.

Adobe Creative Cloud - SUBSCRIPTION

For this class, you'll need to install Adobe Creative Cloud and Photoshop CC. First, You'll activate your Adobe ID and 8-week subscription by clicking My Software from the course navigation, and then sign-up using your DeVry email. If you do not know your DeVry email, login to the DeVry Student Portal (Links to an external site.) and click the mail icon.

• Step #1: Click My Software and then click the "Take me there" button.

• Step #2: Create an Adobe ID using your DeVry email address:, i.e., [email protected]. Your DeVry email will be your Adobe ID, which is required to download Adobe Creative Cloud and Photoshop CC. Your email can be accessed from the Student Portal at learn.devry.edu.

• Step #3: Check your email to confirm subscription to Adobe Cloud.

• Step #4: Sign in to Adobe Cloud and download the Adobe Cloud Desktop App.

• Step #5: Select Adobe Photoshop CC to install application.

When you have successfully installed the application,

• create a 400 x 600 px, 72 ppi, artwork (as shown in the Lesson 3 video);

• either find an image to place on your canvas (again, as shown in the video) or draw some shapes and fill them with color. You don't have to do anything with the image, and you don't have to add text or a background. The goal is to demonstrate that you have Photoshop up and running.

• Take a screenshot of your creative work in the Photoshop environment and submit it.
