Overview:

For this assignment you will need to go to three (3) different sites of photographs from three (3 prominent) African American Photographers: James Van Der Zee; Ernest Withers; and Gordon Parks. From those three (3) different sites please choose 2 (two) different photographs from Van Der Zee, Withers, or Parks,  that you find personally interesting and discuss them by offering a reflection response to your small group. You can use two photos from two different photographers and compare them or contrast them, or you can choose two photos from one photographer and discuss them in relation to each other.

After you choose your two photographs please answer the following questions:

·         Why did you choose the 2 photos? What about them interested you? (60 Words)

·         If you had to describe the texture of the photographs you chose what word would you use to describe how it would feel or how it would be if you touched it? (60 Words)

·         What are the scenes of the photographs you chose?   Describe them. (60 Words)

·         How do these photographs impact you aesthetically?  (60 Words)

·         Do you feel that you have changed your viewpoint about photography and photographs now that you have looked at these? Explain your answer. (60 Words)

·         Offer a link to the two different photographs that you chose!

Remember this is your own assessment and perspective not someone else’s so be thorough and clear in your discussion.  I am not asking you to tell us what the experts say.  I am asking you to tell us how these photographs speak to you on a visceral deep level.
