Overview
Here is an opportunity to listen to some American Jazz/Swing
music from two different African American musicians. Duke Ellington was not
only a band leader and arranger, but he was also an amazing composer of a
variety of compositions that have endured throughout time into our current era.
Count Basie was a phenomenal musician and arranger as well as a band leader.
His arrangements were magnificent. In their time, Duke Ellington and Count
Basie were greatly revered.

Did you know? Duke Ellington was an amazing
composer. He composed an entire
album based on Shakespeare's plays. You can hear one of the songs from his
iconic album on youtube. "Such Sweet Thunder" is a line from
Shakespear's Midsummer Night's Dream.
