MATH 111 Week 14 Discussion | american-public-university-system

Working with complex numbers and polar coordinates can be tricky if this is the first time you have seen them. Please take the time to review to make sure you understand the concepts. These are important topics that will be used quite extensively in Calculus.

This past week you should have been continued your exploration of applications of trigonometry.

Just a quick check-

·         Can you write a number in complex form?

·         Did you notice the pattern for transforming complex numbers?

·         Are you able to add, subtract, multiply and divide a complex number?

·         Can you graph a complex number?

·         Can you translate a complex number in trigonometric or polar form?

·         Are you able to apply DeMoivre’s Theorem to a complex number to the power n?

·         Can you find the roots of a complex number?

·         Are you able to convert from polar to rectangular coordinates and back again?

Next week we will be finishing up our trigonometric topics by looking at polar coordinates and polar equations.
