ENGL 112 Week 2 Discussion | Devry University
Week
2: Descriptive Analysis Essay Peer Review - Week 2 Learning Team B
The purpose of this discussion is to give you an opportunity to
share your work in progress with your fellow classmates, to see what your
classmates are writing about, and to provide helpful, constructive, and
specific feedback and encouragement. This is also a great place for
brainstorming! :)
Please click on the Week 2 Descriptive Essay course resource page to view my video, suggested outline,
sample essays, and the like, which will help you to succeed with the essay!
This week, Christopher will be our Team A
Leader, and Darnisha will be our Team B Leader. Canvas creates the teams and team leaders randomly each week.
Looking ahead, if you want to be a team leader, please let me know! Like everyone else, Team
Leaders only need the 3 required posts to earn an A for the week. No additional
work is required. FYI: "How do I attach a file to a discussion reply as a
student?"
I. Directions
In order to make this process run smoothly, please be sure to
follow the instructions noted below:
1.
To
get started, join us in the DISCUSSIONS. You will only have access to your
assigned team. "Reply" to the initial prompt. Greet your classmates, and then share
some general information about your essay. Explain the current state of your draft, your plans to add
content, and your revision plans. If you have specific questions for the peers
who will review your assignment, or want to provide them with any additional
information, please do so in your initial post.
2.
By
Wednesday night, please post your draft (even if it's not complete), so your fellow team members have enough time
to provide you with helpful feedback.
3.
By
Friday night, provide thoughtful feedback using the Peer Review
Checklist to two of your peers who have not
received feedback yet - or to those who posted after you in terms of
time. Read their
attached drafts and any notes they left to accompany the draft. OPTION 1:
Create a 1-2 minute Kaltura video or audio response offering feedback for each
peer. OPTION 2: Respond to the following questions in an attachment and post to
each peer separately.
II. Peer Review Checklist
NOTE: No comments
about grammar - unless the writer asks for feedback about grammar. Thank you.
1. What is the best
sentence or passage in the draft? Why?
2. Is the introduction
powerful? Does it show the subject and offer background information that
readers can visualize? If not, what might be improved?
3. As you read your
peer's draft, what are some key takeaways? Are you gaining any ideas for how
you might improve your own writing by reviewing some of the strategies others
are using? What revisions might you make to your introduction and essay based
on the feedback from your peers?
4. After critiquing your
classmate's draft, what did you realize about your own draft?
Continue to check into your team Discussion area
in the event that your peers pose any follow-up questions.
As you already know, our classroom is
a safe space for challenging ideas and questions. SO extremely grateful in advance for all
your netiquette, civil discourse, and bias-free language. In addition, thank you in advance for being thoughtful and
constructive as you complete this assignment.
Note: To earn an A this week, post on 3
different days - coming in by Wednesday night, and complete 2 peer critiques.
