ENGL 102  Week 4 Discussion | Southwestern College

Assignment 4.2: Source Review—Collaborative Activity (Deliverable: Discussion post)

Description

For this assignment, you will choose the sources of information for your research writing assignment and post them to the discussion board. Then you will evaluate the reliability and depth of the sources your partner chose. (Note: You are to use the research topic you developed in last week's discussion.)

Instructions

1.  Review the strategies for finding and evaluating sources in Chapter 8 of your textbook.

2.  Compile a list of possible resources for your research writing assignment.

3.  Post your list of resources to the discussion board along with a description of your goals for the paper and/or a tentative thesis statement if you have formed one already. For each resource, include identifying information such as the author, title, publication details (place, publisher, date), and a brief description of the source’s content and focus.

4.  Now evaluate your partner’s resources using the standards of quality described in Chapter 8. Post your evaluation of your partner’s resources to the discussion board.

Writing Requirements

·         Your initial post should be a minimum of 100 words, including six to eight potential sources for your partner to evaluate. Responses should each be about 100 words, but don’t hesitate to write more if your descriptions and assessments of the sources would benefit from additional detail.

·         Please be sure to treat the discussion forums with the same academic approach as you would a written assignment. This applies to your initial response as well as peer responses and follow-up.

Participation Requirements:

Consult the grading rubric in the Faculty & Course Info section for the grading criteria.

Original discussion board posts:

·         Create a thread for your original post identified with your name.

·         100 words long (minimum) with proper punctuation, capitalization, and grammar.

·         Six to eight (6-8) sources required
