Steps to complete the Job/Internship Search Organizer

Download the Job Search Organizer Template below and use the organizer to complete the four steps below. Refer to assignment tips for additional guidance on completing this assignment.

Use the three tabs at the bottom of the document to navigate the sections of this assignment:  

STEP 1: Complete Tab 1: Job Leads Identify 3-5 job/internship postings that are relevant to your future career goals, using Handshake (Links to an external site.)LinkedIn (Links to an external site.), (Links to an external site.) or other job boards. Review each job posting to ensure that it is a good fit for your skills and experience. Using the Job Leads tab, track details about the position, including the company name, location, job title, and job posting URL .

STEP 2: Complete Tab 2: Target Companies - Create a list of 5-10 companies or organizations that you would like to work for. Using the Target Companies tab, track details about the companies, including the industry, location, career site, and additional notes on each opportunity. 

STEP 3: Complete Tab 3: Networking Contacts - Identify 5-10 potential networking contacts that can provide information or connections to advance your career. You may include contacts that you already know, but be sure to include at least new contacts. Using the networking contacts tab, track each person's company, job title, contact details (if available), additional notes, and next steps for outreach.

STEP 4: Save your completed Job Search Organizer as an Excel spreadsheet (.xls or .xlsx) and upload it to Canvas. 

·         Instructions for Google Sheets: Click on File > Select Download > Select Microsoft Excel (.xlsx)

·         Read this article (Links to an external site.) for more ideas on how to create a company list. You may use Hoover's to create a list of companies with your selected industry or region.

·         To identify new networking contacts, you can: 1) request a referral from your current network, 2) use LinkedIn (Links to an external site.) to find professionals that work in your selected industry/companies or roles, or 3) find Temple Alumni through Owl Network.
