Journal Entry #3: COVID-19 and Community Impact

You will submit four journal entries over the course of the semester, reporting on your experience of, reactions to, and reflections on your internship. This exercise aims to provide you a self-guided opportunity to reflect, while also sharpening your analytical sense of the complex dimensions involved in community engagement.

For this Journal Entry, find and share a source which discusses the current COVID-19 pandemic's impact and/or potential responses to mitigate that impact, with a special focus on those most vulnerable to the impact of the pandemic.

Who is most vulnerable and why? What factors are at play that may contribute to the disproportionate impact on underrepresented and historically marginalized members of our community? Consider issues such as health access, housing insecurity, economic opportunities, confinement, etc. Which members of our society are required to take the largest risks with regard to COVID exposure and why?

This source can be a video, podcast, academic article, non-academic article, or a blog.  It would be optimal for you to identify something that relates to your current internship and/or your field of study (e.g. If you are an ECON/FINE major, find a podcast or article discussing the Economics of the pandemic; if you are a SOCI or SRED major, consider exploring food and housing insecurity; if you are POLS, explore policies, laws, access to information; if you are a NSCI/CELL major, consider healthcare disparities in the time of COVID, etc). Upon identifying the source, please:

1.    Read, watch, listen to it in its entirety.

2.    Post the link/video/PDF in your journal entry.

3.    Highlight the main points or takeaways from the article/video that you selected.

4.    Explain why you chose it by answering the following questions:

o    How does this source you are sharing present new and different perspectives on this topic?

o    How does it resonate with the perspectives presented by Cole, Sirolli, Campenella, or Coleman (readings/videos from Week 4 of our seminar)?
