CDMA Week 3 Assignment | Tulane University
3.8 Informational Interview
Completion and Reflection
ABOUT THIS ACTIVITY
Now is the time
to complete the first of your two informational interviews. You will take the
10 questions you have prepared to the interview, but know that you may not have
time to get through all of them. Your goal is to get to at least
four questions and make this feel like a conversation, rather than a
Q&A session. The informational interview should only be about 15 minutes.
Take detailed notes during your interview.
YOUR TASK
Write a paper
at least 3 pages long in the style of a “news report” in which you address the
following:
·
Name, title, and location of professional
·
Questions asked and responses in narrative form
·
What did you learn about the individual?
·
What impressions did you have from the interview (not just the
individual)?
·
How have you followed up with the professional?
·
What did you learn from the entire experience? What are your key
takeaways from the experience?
Submit this
first 3-page “news report” in a Word document. Remember to include your full
name on the document.
EXAMPLE NEWS
REPORT STYLE
1.
What internships did you complete before you graduated from
college?
Mr. Jones said
he completed an internship at Northern Trust Bank in Chicago. He was working in
the wholesale lending department and was responsible for helping the processing
team. During this time, he realized it was not a career he wanted to pursue.
2. What
is a typical day for you like at your branch?
SCORING GUIDE
Credit for this
assignment is based on your interpretation and reporting of the informational
interview (questions), but also in detailing what you learned and took away
from the experience. You must address all requirement components listed above.
Do not write about a second informational interview yet. That assignment will
be due later in the semester.
