Week 5 Blog - Motivated Activities

This blog assignment will contain at least 2 posts: one with activities, and one follow-up post.

1. Early in the week, begin to journal your daily activities. The journal should encompass 3 days of activities.The journal should include a description of the following behaviors:

·         Eating

·         Drinking (non alcoholic)

·         Sleeping

·         Educational activities

·         Leisure

·         Sports

·         Working

2. For each behavior, indicate one brain area that may be responsible for the initiation of that activity (please cite and reference the textbook for this information).

The questions to ask yourself for each behavior include:

·         How much time do I spend on that behavior a day?

·         Why did I perform that behavior? (Be specific. For example, if the activity was “Got a glass of water,” the "why" should be something like “Because I got food, and I like to drink something with my food.” Or “Because I like the taste of lemonade.” Saying “Because I was thirsty,” will not be descriptive enough.)

·         Is this behavior rewarding or punishing? Why?

·         Similar to the pie chart found in chapter on Maintenance and Motivation in the section on The Brain’s reward circuitry, determine your own theoretical pie chart based on the activities listed. What percentage of the pie is spent on those behaviors?

3. Read through some of blogs of your peers. In a follow-up post, discuss what you may have learned about your daily time budget compared to your peers.
