i Folks – Welcome back to class!  I hope you all had an awesome summer!

I’m Michael Michalski and I will guide you through our Human Resources Management course.

With this being your first week, you likely participated in a few ice breaker activities to get acquainted with each other.  But I'd also like to get to know you all a bit better as well! 

Instructions:  Make an initial post to address all three parts below by Friday September 17th.  Make a response post to another student by Sunday September 19th to comment on their post.

Part 1:  Make a posting to this board no later than September 17th to introduce yourself to the class and tell us about yourself: 

  • Your hobbies, interests, what you like to do to relax and have fun, and things you are grateful for in your life

Part 2:  The human resources function is considered to be “strategic”.  In your own words, make a post to tell us:

  • What is human resources management?
  • What do you think is meant by “strategic human resources management”? 
  • How can the HR Management function help a business?

Part 3:  I’d like you to view the following video (10 minutes).  Given your thoughts on what makes human resources “strategic” tell us how you think the “weirdness” of Zappos and the culture they are trying to build contributes to the strategic nature of human resources management.
