AST 102 Week 1 Discussion 2 | Colorado Community College Online
For this discussion, you will research the
topic of light or in scientific terms the "Electromagnetic Spectrum."
Light is not only what you see, visible light, but also includes the other
wavelengths of radio waves, microwaves, infrared, ultraviolet, x-rays, &
gamma rays. Together these seven regions are collectively known as the
Electromagnetic Spectrum. All are similar in that their velocities are
300,000,000 meters/second, the speed of light, but differ greatly in their
wavelengths and energy. Radio waves have the longest wavelength and lowest
energy while gamma rays have the shortest wavelength and highest energy.
Visible light is only a small portion of
the Electromagnetic spectrum and if we were to view our world and the universe
only in visible light, we would not be able to observe very much of all there
is to find. Let's launch into the study of the forms of energy that makes
all of our observations possible.
Instructions
·
Find one website that helps to explain the
fundamentals of the E/M Spectrum.
·
Within that website find information on one
of the seven regions of the Electromagnetic Spectrum & compose your post on
that particular region (radio waves, microwaves, infrared, visible,
ultraviolet, x-rays, or gamma rays)
·
Explain its contents and tell us why you
think it provides a good explanation or how it is helpful in understanding this
region of the spectrum (put the name of the page or the web address of your
site in the subject line).
·
Your post should be 2-3 paragraphs in
length and no shorter than 150 words - also supply a word count.
·
Supply your reference(s) with active
hotlinks along with proper APA style citations.
·
Finally, remember not to copy anyone else's
website (even if you are reporting on a different part of the spectrum)!
