ANT 111  Week 1 Discussion 1 | Colorado Community College Online

There are two parts to this discussion. The first part is for students to introduce themselves to the class, and the second is to start thinking about two of the more relevant topics we will be discussing this semester.

Instructions

Student Introductions:

1.   Have you studied any area of anthropology before? If yes, which?

2.   What is your degree focus? If still undecided, what are your disciplinary and/or life interests?

3.   What about biological anthropology interests you/why are you taking this course?

4.   What else do you want to share with us? Kids, pets, tattoos, travels?

5.   Upload a profile pic!!

Culture & Evolution:

Anthropologists study the human species and these studies range from examinations of DNA, research into language, to the excavation of historic sites. All of these, and many more activities are intended to shed more light on the human culture and how we, as humans, evolved and adapted to our very physical environments in order to survive and thrive.

6.   Consider your own understanding of the concepts of "culture" and "evolution". In your own words define "culture" and explain how it relates to "evolution".

Post your answer to the discussion question by Wednesday of the first week of the discussion. You must meet posting requirements each week a discussion is open.

See the Schedule and Course Rubrics pages in the Syllabus Module for due dates and grading information.
