Complete four anecdotal observations and reflections

Complete four anecdotal observations and reflections

PART A BIG IDEA ASSIGNMENT

Instructions

You will complete the preliminary stages of the Big Idea Curriculum Development document for Part A of this assignment.

You must:

·         Complete four anecdotal observations and reflections that clearly demonstrate a common and pervasive interest from the selection of videos available in the Videatives database from Buchanan Library

·         Identify the “Big Idea” from the observations

·         Write a rationale for the “Big Idea,” explaining why you have chosen that big idea. This must be three to five sentences long.

·         Create a ‘web’ to document your big idea.

o    This documentation is to be completed on a poster board or flip chart paper and it will include concepts related to (minimum of 6 initial concepts and 12 sub-concepts) the big idea and options for play activities and play areas. Include a minimum of 20 activity ideas, with at least six different curriculum areas identified. Differentiate between concepts and experience ideas by using shapes or colours. Include a legend on your web so that the reader knows what each shape/colour means.

o    Ensure your web is written in dark ink on a light background so that your instructor can easily read it on-line.  You can see an example of a beginning web in modules.

o    This web may be hand written and submitted through photos. Be sure that your writing is legible and that the photos are clear enough to be able to read ALL content. You may need to take several photos of the web in sections as well as one photo of the entire web.

Complete the required elements for this assignment using the following document:

·         ECE 1156 - Big Idea Curriculum DevelopmentPreview the document download

·         Note: Although you will only complete pages 1–5, please submit the entire document. Please do not alter the template - simply input your information.

Proofread your work before submitting it. Your assignments should reflect the writing skills expected for a college-level course. You will be graded on spelling, grammar, sentence structure, and organization of ideas. Assignments may not be accepted past the deadline.

Please note: If no submission is received for Part A, you may not complete Part B1 or Part B2. Each part must be submitted before you may move onto the next part.

PART B

Instructions

Once you have submitted Part A of this assignment, begin working on Part B. Continue using the same document (Big Idea Curriculum Development – 1156  download).

For this part of the assignment, Part B1, you will develop, one play area (with four distinct activities), from one of the following curriculum areas:

·         Water/granular (these are similar enough that you may only choose one of them to plan)

·         Blocks

·         Woodworking

·         Manipulative Area - fine motor table activities

You must follow the principles of emergent curriculum when completing your curriculum development and implementation for this assignment. Each portion of the curriculum development process must be informed by a documented observation. Again, you will view videos from Videatives to complete this observation.

Development of the play area also includes the creation of a display board with photographs of the topic of interest, a place for the web, space for a documentation board, and room for documentation of the play area and 3 other play experiences (to be planned/completed in part B2). A book display of children’s picture story books about the topic of interest will also be added to the display board using photos of books (taken from the internet or photos taken of actual books). Additions are also to be made to the web and a new photo taken and inserted into the document.

You will continue using the same planning document as in Part A and will complete the planning and reflection section for a play area (pages 6-12), as well as complete a documentation panel (page 22).

For Part B1 you will submit the following for grading:

·         One Big Idea Planning document complete through the holistic goals chart and reflective exercises (page 12).

·         Additions to the document include:

o    One new photo of webbing with additions

o    Photo(s) of display board with all required elements

o    Documentation panel

PART 3

For this part of the assignment, Part B2, you will develop, three separate play experiences, from the following curriculum areas. You will choose the three curriculum areas NOT already chosen for the play area in part B1:

·         Water/granular (these are similar enough that you may only choose one of them to plan)

·         Blocks

·         Woodworking

·         Manipulative Area - fine motor table activities

You must follow the principles of emergent curriculum when completing your curriculum development and implementation for this assignment. Each portion of the curriculum development process must be informed by a documented observation. Again, you will view videos from Videatives to complete this observation.

In part B2, you will add to your display board documentation of the 3 play experiences. Add the documentation for each play experience, and then take a photo. You will also continue to add to your webbing after the planning of each of the 3 play experiences. Take a photo of the web after each plan is complete and the web has been updated. Through this process, you will have created documentation that show the development process of your big idea.

You will continue using the same planning document as Part A and B1 and will complete the planning and reflection section for each of the 3 play experiences.

For Part B2 you will submit the following for grading:

·         One fully completed Big Idea Planning document

·         Additions to the document include:

o    Three new photos of webbing with additions

o    Three new photos of display board with all required elements
