1.       Unit Introduction

I’m aware many of you may not have experience in global business. That’s okay! Please don’t feel too overwhelmed. This class is a learning experience on the operations of global business. In each Unit, we will analyze the core functions of global business. In this first Unit, we will go over the WTO and G8.  

Each discussion is designed to prepare you for the Unit 5 Individual Project based around the European Union. 

Please be sure to pay attention and answer the best you can the three questions asked.

2.       Unit Objectives

This assignment has 3 parts:

1. Review the Terminal Course Objectives, accessed by clicking on the “Course Information” tab at the top of your screen, scrolling down to the “Course Objectives” and then selecting View class objectives. How will accomplishing these objectives support your success in management? What risks or challenges might a manager encounter if they have not mastered these objectives? Explain.

2. What is the purpose of the WTO and G8? Do you believe they are beneficial to Multi-National Companies (MNCs)?

3. Why do you believe it is important to understand the international monetary system?

3.       Lesson Plan

Review and research the WTO and G8. The WTO and World Bank somewhat work hand-in-hand, and will be very useful when researching the final objective asked for the Unit 5 project involving financial institutions and other global monetary systems. You’ll need to also explain the importance of international monetary systems in thus Unit discussion. 

Be sure to explain what you believe are risks involved global business if a manager hasn’t mastered the basic course objectives presented in this class (you can find these four objectives listed in the Course Information tab). What risks exist?  Example: Communication and cultural differences, changes in technology

What kinds of conflicts could arise for a company or individual? What can be done to help the individual if they haven’t mastered these objectives?  

Also, explain how will this course help you in your current or future career?  

Complete Determine Knowledge in Intellipath, then start working on the Intellipath lessons. 

4.       Assignment(s) Overview 

At a minimum, each student will be expected to post an original and thoughtful response to the DB question and contribute to the weekly dialogue by responding to at least two other posts from students. The first contribution must be posted before midnight (Central Time) on Friday of each week. Two additional responses are required after Friday of each week. Students are highly encouraged to engage on the Discussion Board early and often. 

The purpose of the Discussion Board is to allow students to learn through sharing ideas and experiences as they relate to course content and the DB question. Because it is not possible to engage in two-way dialogue after a conversation has ended, no posts to the DB will be accepted after the end of each unit. 

Instructor Notes/Instructions:

One important detail I must point out is that the due dates for assignments have changed. The old format was Monday started the Unit, Wednesday was the mid-point to make your first post by and Sunday was the deadline date. As of right now:

• New Units begin on Wednesdays and last two weeks at a time

• First weekly posts to the DB must be made by every Friday

• Two additional posts must be made between that Saturday – Tuesday

• Be sure to begin work on Intellipath is week and do Determine Knowledge

• Learning Materials have been applied in the Course Resources tab
