Payers and Public Health/Special Interest Groups are two fairly new Target Market opportunities.  They have helped lead from a traditional marketing technique to a more contemporary marketing technique.

Target Market - Payers

Most healthcare providers could not survive on private pay alone, though there are some that do in senior communities. Payer mix is something with which virtually all providers are concerned and it is not uncommon for this to be the responsibility of marketing. The actual payer contracts, however, may not go through marketing, but through the finance office and administrator.

Choose a type of provider (hospital, senior community, physician practice, or another provider).

How would you identify a strategy towards engaging more payers at that provider to improve the payer mix and thus, the profitability of the organization?

Differentiate Payer types (3rd parties), i.e. Donors/Sponsors, Organizations/Clubs, Insurance companies, etc. and identify how  money would trickle down from each.

How would you describe marketing strategies to each type and which technique would seem to be more beneficial?
