M4 Discussion 1: Application Problem (reserve by 4/4; solve
by 4/18)
Overview
You
will solve an even-numbered application problem (i.e., a word
problem) from any section in the chapters of your e-text covered in this
module and share your solution with the class in this discussion. Application
problems start about halfway through the problem set.
Outcomes:
1-17
Instructions
1. Choose an even-numbered word problem from your
e-text that you would like to solve.
2. Check the subject lines of posts already in the discussion board to
verify that the problem you want is not already reserved. This
step is very critical because I cannot grade one problem twice, and
you don't want to be working on a problem while someone else is also working
it.
3. Start a new discussion thread to reserve the problem you want to solve by indicating the chapter,
section, and problem number in the Subject line. An example of a good
subject line is: Chapter 12.2, #52. Post this thread so others can see it and
know that you have reserved this problem.
4. In a new discussion topic in the same thread, type your detailed solution. Provide the
following:
·
A written description of the steps you use to solve
the problem
·
A mathematical solution to the problem. You
should use the Equation Editor to show your math.
5. Post your problem solution in this Discussion Thread.
Acceptable
solution format:
·
Present the problem written out. If your selected
problem contains tables, diagrams or any visual arts/shapes, you will need to
photograph or scan them;
·
Attach a step by step solution of your selected even problem with explanations for each step;
·
Your Explanations should be free of grammatical and spelling mistakes
·
Verify your solution by showing your checked
results;
·
If possible, interpret your results;
·
To summarize, your solution
should look similar to a worked example in the textbook,
with all the steps that lead to the final solution.
