Module 5: Finding the Thesis and Topic Sentences

 

For this Discussion, you will focus on editing. You will first need to read Nadine Brown's Classification Essay Example (The Misses), which can be found in Chapter 11 of your eBook. After you have read the essay, answer the following questions.

  • What is the thesis statement?
  • What are the topic sentences? Are they unified with the thesis?
  • Is each support sentence a fact, example, reason, and so forth, that further explains the topic sentence? If not, which paragraph has a support sentence that needs revision? The paragraphs are numbered, so just put the number and then the sentence.
  • Does the conclusion answer the question, "So what?"
