HUM 250 Week 3 Discussion 1 | Assignment Help | Carrington College
Module 3: Theater
This module we took a
brief look at Shakespeare's Tempest.
This five-act play opens with a storm at sea (a tempest), and throughout,
Shakespeare has planted allusions to apparitions and magic with characters like
Ariel, who is invisible to the other characters at times.
In film, special
effects and CGI can create just about any fantasy world. On stage, artists are
more limited in the fantasy they can achieve. In both film and theatre,
however, audiences must suspend disbelief—that is, whether special effects are
sophisticated or rudimentary, we know that what is happening onstage or
onscreen is not real, yet we invest our minds and emotions in the experience.
Would you rather
see The Tempest on
stage or in film? Why? Have you seen a film or stage production during which it
was difficult for you to suspend disbelief? What occurred to make this the
case?
