MATH 360 Week 7 Assignment Help | American Public University System

Math 360 Research Paper

Assignment Instructions:

This paper is due at the end of week 7 of the course.

In this course we will study the development of many topics over the course of history and through many different time periods. For your paper you will choose one mathematical topic and follow its evolution through time and civilization.

Step 1:  Choose your topic. This can be difficult because you want to choose a topic that is not too specific but not too broad. As we study different topics throughout the course watch for topics that show up week after week in each time period. Also watch for things that change over time and that interest you. You will enjoy this paper a lot more if you choose a topic that interests you.  Please submit your topic by Monday of week #6 to get it approved. Feel free to submit early if you want feedback before you get started.

Step 2:  Collect data. It will be important to have as much information as possible and from as many civilizations as possible. You can use your textbook and should use it, but you will also want to do research outside of your textbook.

Step 3:  Rough draft. This is due and should be posted on the Discussion.

Step 4:  Peer review and self-review. Download the review template and save to your computer.  Then, start with your self-review as you already have the paper. Just fill in the form but be sure to include comments and ideas for improvement. If you only enter numbers you will receive less than half credit (see rubric for details).  Then, using that form discuss each other's papers on the discussion and help each other fix them up for final submissions.

Step 5:  Edit and revise before your final submission due Sunday night.

For the paper you need to include the following:

1.    Description of the topic you have chosen.  Give a brief overview of the topic, its applications and value in mathematics.

2.    Describe the full range of its development over time.  You should include examples from at least 5 different cultures.  You should be detailed       within each culture as to how they viewed and developed the topic.

3.    Describe the relationship between the developments of this topic between cultures.  Did the development in one location or time affect its          development elsewhere?

4.    Include at least one specific mathematical example.  This should be a very detailed example of how a specific problem was approached or          solved.  You can fit this in at any point during the paper and choose any culture early or later but this should be very detailed.  This should be    something similar to a problem from your homework assignment including the problem and solution, as it would fit in with the culture you are    discussing at the time.

The total paper should be approximately 4-5 pages in length (not counting the cover page, references page, or any exhibits), and include a full set of references in APA format (including the textbook if you use it, as I assume you will, other books, and all websites). APA format requires that the font used should be Arial or Times New Roman, 10 or 12 point only; the pages be double spaced; and the margins should be no more than one inch all around.

Please format the paper in APA style.  You can find an online APA style guide in the APUS Library.  Navigate to APUS Login >> Online Library:  Campus Guides >> Library Tutorial Center >> Writing Help

Or you can use the link http://apus.campusguides.com/writing/citation and then select on APUS APA Style Guide.  Another excellent APA resource is found by googling ‘The Owl at Purdue” (OWL is the online writing center at Purdue University) – there you will find not only a style guide but a sample paper that you can use as a model for what your paper should look like.
