MATH 320 Week 6 Discussion | Assignment Help | american-public-university-system
Week 6
Forum / Topic 1: Venn Diagrams
• Think of a scenario where you will
need to solve a Venn Diagram with 3 circles. Make sure you make up your own
problem. Then show how you set up the problem and how you solved the problem.
• Example: Sarah owns a car lot with 70
cars and has 25 Toyotas(circle A), 20 silver cars(circle B) and 30- 4 door
cars(circle C). 3 of the cars are Toyotas, silver, and 4 door cars. 8 are
Toyotas and silver, 10 are silver and 4 door, and 12 are Toyotas and 4 door.
• Draw 3 overlapping circles
In the very center circle there is a 3 for the 3
that are Toyotas, silver and 4 door.
In the area at the top where A and B overlap but
does not include the center there is 8-3 =5
In the area on the right bottom where B and C
overlap but does not include the center there is 10-3=7.
In the area on the left bottom where C and A overlap
but does not include the center there is
12-3=9
So far in the A circle there is 5+3+9=17. So in the
part that is only A there is 25-17=8.
So far in the B circle there is 5+3+7=15. So in the
part that is only B there is 20-15=5.
So far in the C circle there is 3+7+9=19. So in the
part that is only C there is 30-19=11
Looking at all 7 areas there is 8+5+11+5+7+9+3=48
There are 70-48 =22 cars that are not any of the 3.
