I hate to see women a victim of things which to me are totally silly. Totally silly. For instance, jewels, and dresses, and stockings and shoes, and a million uncomfortable high heels. All the desperately uncomfortable things and eye makeup dripping off. For what? For what, for God’s sake! Possibly it’s all right from the age of fifteen to twenty-five, during the first domination of desire, to be fascinating to the opposite sex. But once one is onto that routine, anybody who relies on all that junk to be fascinated by you isn’t worth fascinating… Be sure to give page numbers from the play and a Works Cited in the MLA stylesheet for any text you cite.
