Instructions:

This is a two-part assignment. Part A will help you identify the

multifaceted nature of drugs. In Part B, you will then be able to identify

what addiction is. How does addiction impact an individual, a family

system and a community? What are some possible solutions to address

this issue? What are the limitations in treatment?

Part A

Discuss the effects of different substances that can lead to addiction.

Select five substances and create a chart summarizing the effects. The

chart must include the following elements:

• The type of drug and the class it is part of: For example, cocaine is a

stimulant

• Effects on the brain
• Effects on the body
• How it is likely to influence behavior
• Effects of long-term use

Part B

Compare two models of conceptualizing addiction.

Write a 700- to 1,050-word paper briefly describing the models. Discuss

how they are synergistic, or how they take competing views.

Include a summary about which theory you feel is most useful for

helping intervene on addiction.

Format your paper according to APA guidelines.

Instructions:

In this assignment, you will work as a team to challenge the

misconceptions of addiction. You will also identify the impact of

addiction on the family, workplace, and community. For this

assignment, work together as though you currently work at a

community agency and have been asked to give a talk to a local high

school.

Choose a character from a movie or TV series who is a functioning

addict to serve as the basis for your talk.

Debate the relevancy of the character's addiction on relationships and

overall functioning.

Create a brief 5- to 10-slide Microsoft® PowerPoint® presentation that

explores this issue.

Discuss the following questions in your presentation:

• Can a person be a functioning addict? What would this look like?
• How might a functioning addict be exhibited in a family, workplace,

and community?

• What are some long-term effects of a functioning addict, on the

individual, family, and community?

• Are the problems any different from what families not facing issues

with addiction may face? If so, how?

determine what treatments will be most effective for various special

populations.

Imagine yourself and your Learning Team working in an agency where

your manager has asked you to quickly outline treatment approaches

for a special staff meeting.

Create a 1- to 2-page outline of major treatment approaches.

Include at least five treatment approaches.

Provide a brief description of each approach in the outline annotated

with the factors that must be considered for various special populations.

Instructions:

Imagine you are looking for a highly successful substance abuse

treatment program within an established organization in your

community. You will be showcasing this program at the Annual Human

Service Conference next month. The criteria that you will use to identify

and justify your treatment program will be based on your knowledge,

skills, and theory for structuring and administering direct service

delivery and use of appropriate interventions with clients.

Research treatment program that has shown endurance and success

over the years.

Locate an organization which has sponsored the treatment program.

Write a 1,050- to 1,400-word paper evaluating the treatment program

and the sponsoring organization.

Address the following in your paper:

• Treatment program overview
• Determine and discuss the intended program activities, target

population, intervention and intended outcomes.

• Determine and discuss the staff competency for delivery of services.
• Discuss the success of the program based on various academic

studies.

• Discuss the organization's implementation process of the treatment

program.
