MTH 110 Week 1 Individual Assignment Mathematical Happenings 

Choose a historical period that is of interest to you. It can be any time from ancient Egypt to the 11th century.
Select two important mathematical events that occurred in your chosen period, and complete one of the following assignment options.
Option 1: Paper
Write a 700- to 1,050-word paper explaining the events you selected.
Include the people involved in the events.
Explainthe importance of the events or discoveries through the viewpoints of the people involved.
Cite at least two secondary sources other than the course textbook.
Format your paper consistent with APA guidelines.
Option 2: Collage or Infographic
Create a collage or an infographic illustrating the events you selected.
Include visual explanations of important mathematical achievements and the involved people.
An example of an infographic can be found on the Mike Worth Art website (http://www.mikewirthart.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/howlawsmadeWIRTH2.jpg).
Include presenter’s notes.
Provide APA-formatted references for any sources you use.
Option 3: Presentation
Create a 10- to 20-slide Microsoft® PowerPoint® presentation explaining the importance of the events or discoveries you selected through the viewpoints of the people involved.
For Local Campus students, these are 15- to 20-minute oral presentations accompanied by Microsoft® PowerPoint® presentations.
For Online and Directed Study students, these are Microsoft® PowerPoint®presentations with presenter’s notes.
Format any citations in your presentation consistent with APA guidelines.

MTH 110 Week 2 Individual Assignment Biography of a Mathematician

Research the mathematician from the Middles Ages to the 19th century you chose in Week 1.
Complete one of the three assignment options. Choose a different assignment type than you selected for your Mathematical Happenings assignment.
Include the following information about the mathematician you chose for whichever assignment option you select:
Place of birth
Brief overview of family life and upbringing
Education
Countries in which he or she lived and worked
Specific examples of his or her contributions, not limited to mathematics
Most important work and results: What do you most remember the person for?
Place and cause of death, if known
Option 1: Paper
Write a 1,050- to 1,400-word informative biography for your selected mathematician. The biography should not be a summary of the class discussions.
Cite at least two secondary sources other than the course textbook.
Format your paper consistent with APA guidelines.
Option 2: Collage or Infographic
Create a collage or an infographic illustrating the biography for your selected mathematician.
Include presenter’s notes.

For Online and Directed Study students, these are Microsoft® PowerPoint® presentations with presenter’s notes.
Format any citations in your presentation consistent with APA guidelines.
