COMM 305 Week 3 Communication Assignment Help | Franklin University
Assignment 1
The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly of Virtual Meetings
Purpose
·
To predict
challenges in facilitating a virtual retreat.
·
To
strategize to avoid pitfalls in facilitating a virtual retreat.
Overview
Many of
you have had (positive and negative) experiences with virtual communication
technology. As you prepare to implement a virtual project, it will be valuable
for you to share these experiences. As you read your classmates' postings,
think about how this knowledge might affect the decisions you and your
teammates make as you move forward with your virtual project. You should
consider how you can extract the learning opportunity from these experience(s)
so that you can bring this knowledge with you as you plan and implement your
meeting.
As with all
discussions, avoid making superficial postings such as, "I agree," or
"I disagree." Your comments should be thoughtful and expand upon the
posting to which you are responding.
Action Items
1. EITHER
a. Recall a time when you have participated in /facilitated a virtual meeting
in the past. This may have been part of an online course you have taken at
Franklin or another institution; it may have been related to your job.
Think about a positive or negative experience (or both) you could share
with the class as they prepare their final assignment (the virtual
retreat/meeting.) Your experience may be a cautionary tale about the
inappropriate use of the technology, or it might have been when you
saw excellent virtual etiquette modeled by a facilitator.
OR
b. If you have no direct experience with using a virtual communication
technology, predict challenges you would expect to see from using this
type of technology instead of a traditional, face-to-face approach. In
particular, what are the human factors that need to be considered when
working in virtual teams? What norms would you suggest for a particular
technology to avoid miscommunications between, or alienation of, team
members?
2. By Thursday, summarize your experience(s) or predictions/norms and post your summary
by using the Discuss tool.
3. By Sunday, read your classmates' postings and respond to at least two posts
noting any experiences that parallel or contrast with your
experience/predictions. You may suggest a strategy to avoid a negative
situation or pitfall highlighted by another student.
